Film Showcase Allows Audience to Select Program

For Immediate Release:

San Francisco startup CineGoGo to introduce new film screening model, partnering with MySpace and indie festival “From Here to Awesome;” audience votes on programming at event

Independent Film Festival “From Here to Awesome” (San Francisco, August 15th) incorporates CineGoGo’s screening, distribution and ticketing model, giving filmgoers the opportunity to select the Festival line-up, and connect filmmakers with their audience

SAN FRANCISCO (August 1, 2008) – On Friday, August 15, in film-loving San Francisco, CineGoGo will co-host a dynamic indoor/outdoor film experience showcasing the newest possibilities in filmmaking, distribution and audience participation.  The event, part of the traveling “From Here To Awesome” festival, will be held at 8 PM on Mint Plaza and at the adjacent Mezzanine nightclub at Jessie and Mint Streets in San Francisco.

Founder Kal Deutsch, started CineGoGo (www.cinegogo.com) as a “community-powered cinema” social network, to bring together filmmakers, film fans, and backyard home theater enthusiasts.   We enable new possibilities in the cinema experience,” says Deutsch. “CineGoGo is the place to announce screenings, administer ticketing, post reviews, and interact directly with each other.”

CineGoGo leverages digital distribution and portable, theatrical quality projection equipment to migrate the cinema experience to literally any gathering place.  Screenings of films can now happen in gyms, parks, universities, restaurants, bars, and even parking lot drive-ins.  Freed from the constraints of expensive 35mm projection equipment, CineGoGo makes it possible to give high quality, low-cost screenings—offering new revenue possibilities for film producers and venues.

Noted indie filmmaker Lance Weiler, co-founder of From Here to Awesome, (www.fromheretoawesome.com) says “CineGoGo brings the audience into the process and it fits naturally with From Here to Awesome’s mission of being a discovery and distribution festival — the evening becomes a social event allowing the audience to see the cutting-edge films they might otherwise miss.”

Weiler has co-produced an FHTA corresponding day-long Conference titled DIY Days (Do It Yourself) which examines the changing roles of filmmakers and film distribution services: how to fund, create, and distribute directly to an audience. The San Francisco conference will be held on Sunday, August 17, at 111 Minna Street Gallery, in conjunction with the Friday night CineGogo Screenings. (http://fromheretoawesome.com/blog/diy-days/)

Film fans can get complimentary passes to the Friday night August 15 screening event by visiting www.cinegogo.com/fhta.  Twelve films, both features and shorts, are in the running for the festival lineup.  Fans may preview and vote their preferences at a special MySpace page [http://myspace.com/fromheretoawesome.] At the actual event, final voting will happen by mobile phone and SMS to determine the final three films to be shown. After the screenings several filmmakers will be available via webcast to answer audience questions submitted via mobile device and text messaging.
